International Theatre Poster Design
Gallery Stratford
Theatre poster fans, of which there are many, and I am one, have
been treated to a feast of visual delights representing the art of poster
design from around
the world as exhibited at Gallery Stratford in Ontario this summer.
Now, to accompany the excellent show comes a catalogue in large 9x12 format
which reflects, in full
colour, the breadth and richness of international poster design. It
covers the juried section of the exhibit as well as tributes to the great
design from Poland and the inspired work of Japan's Ikko Tanaka, Canada's
Theo Dimson, America's Milton
Glaser as well as the acclaimed work of exhibition curator Scott McKowen.
Included as homage to the Stratford Festival in its Fiftieth Season is an
overview of posters from
thirty-one seasons of the famed Shakespearean festival. Theatre poster
exhibitions are few and far between and of this calibre are rare indeed. This
catalogue is a
"crowning achievement". Bravo Scott McKowen and Gallery Stratford!
$25.95.
